Celebrating the recorded music and compositions of Michael & Randy Brecker, The Brecker Brothers, Steps Ahead
Breckerville Dave Hartl (arranger- keyboards) Bob Ferguson (trumpet-flugelhorn) Carl Cox (saxophone) Vic Stevens( drums ) Andy Lalasis (acoustic - electric bass) was formed in 2102 for a Jazz Education Series. Breckerville performs the music compositions of Michael Brecker (tenor sax- flute -EWI) and Randy Brecker ( trumpet- flugelhorn) . The Brecker Brothers Band formed in the early 1970's. Randy added brother Michael to secure the record deal, they collaborated beautifully creating a huge repertoire of music until Michael Brecker lost a heroic battle with Leukemia in 2007.
Steps Ahead formed in 1979 by vibraphonist and composer Mike Mainieri to perform at the Brecker's club Seventh Avenue South located in the Village in NYC. (The picture above shows the building today). Mike Maineri, Steve Gadd (drums) Don Grolnick (piano) Eddie Gomez(bass) and Kazumi Watanabe (guitar) were the original lineup of musicians. Steps Ahead has featured a world-class line up of musicians including Peter Erskine , Dennis Chambers , Steve Smith (drums) Warren Bernhardt, Elaine Elias (piano) Mike Stern, Steve Kahn (guitar) Richard Bona, Victor Bailey, Tony Levin (bass) performing with maestro Mike Mainieri.
The Musical approach of Breckerville is to continue performing and embellishing on the compositions of the great musicians and composers of the Jazz Rock & Fusion era in American Jazz Music. Keyboardist Dave Hartl arranges the unique compositions that Breckerville performs live. Dave expands on the complex improvisational, rhythmic, and harmonic writings of the jazz rock fusion era in American jazz music.
Through jazz festivals and live concerts Breckerville brings this music to a new generation of listener.
